Another legend Recently the Jenni Baynton was visited by a world famous broadcaster who was on board the Radio Carolineship Mi Amigo when at 12 midnight August 14th 1967 broadcasting from ship outside territorial waters of the UK became illegal. Robbie Dale, nick named "The Admiral" , has quite a career in radio.  Radio Caroline, Radio Veronica end even the Dutch legal broadcaster TROS had him on the payroll.   Robbie Dale does the time checks on the top of the hour on Radio Seagull and that is his only radio-activity nowadays. Robbie and his wife stayed on the ship for several hours.       The Radio Seagull Top 50 The response to the Seagull Top 50 has been truly incredible, not only great choices of music but it’s also been interesting to see from which countries you are all listening to Radio Seagull, not just Europe & Scandinavia but as far away as Australia!!!!!, but overall a BIG THANK YOU for those of you who took part in supplying your favorite top 5 bands and tracks, which has made the Radio Seagull Top 50 possible. Don’t forget out of all of you who sent us your Favorite 5 tracks, you will be entered into a competition, your names will be placed in a hat and one lucky winner drawn out of the hat is will win the CD album or DVD from which the No1 track in the Radio Seagull Top 50 for 2010 comes from and will be announced during the programme, so make sure you tune in, it could be you!! . The Radio Seagull Top 50 will be broadcast on 1602 AM & via the internet on the 14th August 2010 between 21.00 – 01.00 CET and on the morning of the 14th August on the internet only between 09.00 – 13.00 CET and repeated on the 15th August between 09.00 – 13.00 CET. Since July 1st Radio Seagull broadcasts on FM in Tenerife on 99.7 FM. To serve the Dutch contingent on the Islands the programs during day time (7 am - 7pm CET) are Radio Waddenzee's and after 7 pm CET Radio Seagull takes over. More news to be expected soon, watch this space !           Ship back from offshore with a stowaway  Monday May 17th the Radio Seagull ship Jenni Baynton has safely returned to her home port Harlingen. For now we are moored at a temporary mooring to allow easy access to a quay side. Lots of supplies as well as the spare generator had to be taken off the ship. The offshore broadcast was a great success. Many visitors (over 100) made a trip out to the ship and had the time of their lives. the last weekend (15 and 16 May) was the Seagull weekend. A splendid experiment with Seagull 24/7 from the ship. The likes of Norman Barrington, Stevie Gordon, Dave Foster, Chris Kennedy, Mandy Marton and Andy Brooks came out to the ship and made it a terrific weekend. It turns out we have a stowaway. Our guest presenter Steve Conway has joined the station permanently. A warm welcome to yet another new kid on the block. 558 broadcast terminated Radio Seagull has, for now, ceased bradcasting daily on 558 in London. Spectrum Radio and Radio Seagull were very happy with the co-operadtion, however the timeslot was uncomfortable to say the least. At the moment both Seagull and Spectrum are looking into more courant alternatives. Watch this space! Crystal cube Soon to be expected in the webshop is a crystal cube of 2,5 inches in which is a brilliant copy of the Jenni Baynton in 3 D! The examp[le showed on board during the offshore weeks was gazed at by dozens. The cubes are for sale for GBP 39. At the moment we are looking into the costs for shipping it safely. As an offshore period like we had in 2008 and 2009 demands a lot of preparation, so the organization has already started to update last years blueprint of the event. The planned time for the broadcast will be late April, early May, probably around ascension. A change compared to last year is the anchor. The ship will no longer be "anchored" to a buoy, but will use her own anchor. This way we hope to avoid the constant clashing of the buoy against the ship when the battle between tide and wind stops the ship from swinging round.  Another new feature will be the Radio Seagull weekend. For three days the 1602 will radiate Radio Seagull programs only. The Radio Waddenzee presenters on the ship will be replaced for Radio Seagull jocks and Radio Waddenzee will close down for that time. More details are to follow. My Seagull Friend Singer Song writer Nick Barnes has kindly donated his song My Seagull Friend to Radio Seagull and Radio Seagull Records for us to sell and raise funds for the maintenance of the Jenni Baynton. Here's a note from Nick on how the song came about: The song My Seagull Friend....... Well where do I start. Martin Smith phoned me one day a couple of years ago and asked me if I could put a jingle together for his programme on Radio Seagull. So I set to work and wrote the jingle. I really liked the structure of it and started to work on it as a full blown song about Radio Seagull. So I set to work doing a bit of home work about the radio station. When I had written the song and music I sent a copy of it off to Tommy Mandel who has helped me with my music. Tommy is the keyboard player with the Bryan Adam's Band. The song came back 3 weeks later sounding great. Whilst holidaying in France we took a visit to Douarnenez in Brittany and to my surprise came across a familiar sight in the form of a Lightship, as there was no transmitter mast it wasn’t the Jenni Baynton on holiday as well but Trinity House Lightvessel number 4 ‘Scarweather’.Decommissioned in 1989 the ship had been purchased by the Musée de Bateau in Douarnenez/France for £40,000, for restoration and renamed to ’Scarweather’. The ship was no longer at the pier of the museum ships but in the middle of the water and there appeared to be no visits to the ship.    Radio Seagull is available online.
