New Talent on Radio Seagull

Commencing again mid August, every other Tuesday between 0100 and 0300 CET, you can now listen to ”New Talent” on Radio Seagull. The programme is produced and presented by Lizzie B, a singer and songwriter who has been performing as a solo artist for some 6 years.

Lizzie’s influences range from Beth Orton, Mary Black and Jewel, to Joni Mitchell and Rosie Thomas. Her songs are easy listening with the emphasis on both the lyric and melody.

The programme, New Talent, is about encouraging people to have confidence in their music; so please send in your mp3; and Lizzie will play it around the world on Radio Seagull.

MAY DAY ++++ MAY DAY ++++ MAY DAY   Seagull all at sea

Our radio ship, the Jenni Baynton, was at anchor approximately 8 miles offshore in the Waddensea - this is the area of sea between the mainland and a string of islands. Beyond those islands is the North Sea. Being anchored at sea resulted in many reception reports confirming improved reception. Maritime matters were taken care of by the Harlingen Sea Cadets (Dutch Navy officers in training). The ship has now returned to Harlingen Harbour.

Apple Jack on Seagull

As you've probably noticed, our schedule has recently been overhauled. For various reasons we were able to offer presenters slots to highly respected former staff members who left the station in the past and could be persuaded to rejoin (Chris B., Tony Christian and Simon Clarke). Also we were able to recruit some new faces, or should we say voices, who fit in the team like a custom made glove (Jon Rogers, Barry Marshall Everitt and Jack Knowlson). Soon even more new presenters are to be expected to re-enforce the team. Both the “joiners” and the “re-joiners” already have or will soon introduce themselves to you on our presenters pages elsewhere on this site.

When looking at the names of the re-joiners two must look familiar. Those of you who have already taken a look at the “history” page on this site must have noticed the name of Barry Everitt.

He was one of the people in the cradle of the original Radio Seagull in 1973. A real home coming after so many years.

Another name not really unknown in Seagull circles is Jack Knowlson. Jack was station manager at Apple FM, an Exeter based satellite station who used to broadcast on the SKY platform. In those days Apple FM relayed the Seagull programmes overnights. When Apple FM entered the tender for an Exeter terrestrial frequency on FM, they were unfortunately outbid by an other applicant. Satellite only was not enough to survive and Apple had to close down.

The excellent relationship between Jack and Seagull remained however and has now resulted in Jack presenting shows for Seagull. His choice of music fits in with the Seagull philosophy and together with his laid back style of presenting makes good listening.

So, when looking at the schedule after the overhaul the Seagull management is very happy. We had a very good line up before the overhaul, but now with the new recruits, the re-joiners and the staff members who were there before increasing the amount of hours we once again have a very interesting and high quality palette of music.

Enjoy and let us know what you think.

On behalf of the Seagull management,
