Radio Seagull on air: Paul Newman

Paul Newman

Paul was 10 years old when he became the proud owner of a medium wave pocket transistor radio. At home in Herefordshire, UK in 1972, listening at night under the bedclothes was an exciting experience (when the radio wasn’t confiscated by his parents) and he was always fascinated by offshore stations like Radio North Sea International, Radio Caroline / Mi Amigo, Luxembourg, American Forces Network, Manx Radio, Radio Eireann and many more.

Paul Newman

In 1973 his family moved closer to London, which enabled him to hear the birth of local commercial radio in the UK as well as briefly receiving the original Radio Seagull offshore.

In the 1980's Paul gained valuable experience in hospital radio and the 1990's gave Paul an fantastic opportunity to embark on a career in professional radio when his demo tape was received at Oxford's new station, FOX FM. He's also been heard on London's Smooth Radio, Capital Gold (South and Birmingham), Southern FM, MIX96, Chiltern, 2CR FM and Red Dragon.

Paul first hit the airwaves of Radio Seagull on 13th September 2011 and when you hear his programme "Sunrise, Sunset" you can tell he is enjoying his tenure on the station, which has included joining his colleagues at Radio Day NL (2014) in Amsterdam. He also took part in Radio Seagull Offshore 2014, launching the English service on the first night aboard the LV Jenni Baynton 5km off the Dutch coast.

Paul is keen to promote the best of today's new music and mix it with rock classics from decades past. Every show makes for a truly eclectic listening experience.
